Snøhetta for Not a Hotel

Designed by Norwegian architecture firm Snøhetta, this building sits on a mountaintop in the Rusutsu ski resort, offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape and the iconic Mount Yotei. 

Not a Hotel is using a shared ownership model to offer homes by some of the world’s leading architects in unique locations across Japan.

The site and its iconic geographical motifs were the starting point for a visual investigation into how this building relates to its context. Extreme seasonal and meteorological transformations inspired a series of images that show how time will change the experience of coming to Rusutsu. As with many of Not a Hotel's project, a connection to nature was the main driver behind both the conception and subsequent communication of the project.
